Fort Wayne, Indiana — We’re thrilled to share some incredible news: Utopian Coffee has been named the Overall Regional Winner for the U.S. & Canada at the Global Coffee Awards (GCA) 2025! This honor celebrates the dedication, quality, and collaborative spirit behind every cup from producer to roaster.
Award-Winning Coffees
Our entries represented some of the most distinctive coffees we’ve had the privilege to roast this year:
- Costa Rica San Diego — San Diego Mill
- Sumatra Asman Gayo — Asman Gayo Mill
- Ethiopia Guji Uraga — Uraga Washing Station
- Decaf Mexico Esmeralda — Smallholder Farmers
- Colombia Wilton Benitez — Wilton Benitez
These coffees earned Gold, Silver, and Bronze distinctions across multiple categories, culminating in our Overall Regional Win for the U.S. & Canada.
Producer Spotlight: Asman Gayo Mill
One of the standout coffees in our submissions was Sumatra Asman Gayo.
The Asman Gayo mill processes coffee from several smallholder farmers in the Pantan Musara villages. Many of whom were displaced by a natural disaster years ago. Rebuilding their lives through coffee, these farmers now focus on cultivating high-quality microlots with increased traceability and care. This lot was processed using the Natural method, a rarity in Sumatra where Wet-Hulling is far more common. Cherries are carefully sorted, then sun-dried on raised beds over the course of 30 to 40 days, allowing the fruit’s full character to develop.
This offering reflects both the resilience of the farmers and the evolving story of specialty coffee in Sumatra. It's a beautiful example of what can happen when traditional practices meet intentional innovation.
We’re honored to have his coffee included in our award-winning lineup. Their work is a reminder that great coffee is the product of art, science, and careful stewardship.
What’s Next: Global Finals
Because of our Gold-level successes and overall regional win, Utopian Coffee will move forward to the Global Finals at the next Producer & Roaster Forum (PRF) in El Salvador, March 26–27, 2026. It’s an opportunity to compete among the world’s best and continue celebrating the stories behind every cup.
